I had a nightmare last night. I dream that these things were representing the 2012 olympics.
I was unfortunately reminded of these after reading a wonderful blog post on Going Underground. Very interesting blog if you’re remotely interested in the underground. (a.k.a. an anorak). In the post there are several graphic artist mock-ups of possible tube map covers. For those not in London, the tube map cover is where various reinterpretations of the tube map appear every 3 months. They are usually quite interesting and worth checking out occasionally. At the moment it’s a tube map where the station names have been relabelled with emotions: Grief, Anger, Fear, Love, etc.
It would be really nice to see something classy and exciting representing our Olympics. Rather than cheap anthropomorphic blobs than look vaguely like cocks. Not too much to ask you’d think given the huge wealth of talent this country still retains. After the Chinese Olympics, Danny Boyle has talked about making it simpler and less flashy. That’s a great idea and one we should pursue. But less flashy does not have to mean David Beckham in a old routemaster.
