Got another tube strike coming up at the end of this month and via Going Underground I notice that we may have yet another on Boxing Day although over a different dispute.
It seems that the tube strikers are being made to work boxing day for standard pay and without a holiday in lieu. Which does seem pretty harsh to be fair. Ignoring the issue that Tube Strikers get paid quite a bit – not giving any extra salary for working on a bank holiday is lacking the Christmas spirit a touch. Heck – this year it’s a sunday, in some jobs you’d get paid extra just for that. If I was travelling around this Boxing Day (I won’t be) then I’d certainly appreciate the tube driver that little bit extra. Whilst triple pay and holiday in lieu is slightly optimistic that’s usually how negotiations work and where you can agree on a compromise between the two positions. Lets hope that’s the case for Londoners this time around.
