Apparently the pope has clarified his comment, but to be honest I’m even more confused than ever.
“The problem is this… It’s the first step of taking responsibility, of taking into consideration the risk of the life of another with whom you have a relationship. This is if you’re a woman, a man, or a transsexual.”
Pretty clear cut then. Using a condom to protect yourselves and other is responsible and has a proven record over trying to encourage chastity. But wait:
“The Pope’s attitude towards homosexuality and artifical contraception has not shifted, with other passages in the book reaffirming the Vatican’s opposition to both.”
Wait. What? So he’s against condoms but for them. I guess that’s one way to solve the problem – just hold both views. More as soon as I’ve convinced myself that the pope both is and isn’t infallible whilst he holds two contradictory views simultaneously. This may be difficult..
